3 vs 1, however only two of the multiples participated in the fight.
This video raises two critical issues. First, poor situational awareness. He failed to consider these dangers:
Taking all this into account, it would have been wise to avoid any kind of fight where possible.
Secondly, grappling skills are ESSENTIAL to avoid being taken to the ground. I’ve heard so many times “I don’t train grappling because I’d never fight on the ground”. You can’t simply decide not to go to the ground, you also need the skills to prevent it. Especially when fighting multiple opponents, they gain the greatest advantage by putting you down. Learn takedown defense, learn how to reverse a bad position on the ground, learn how to get up.
Woman executes a drop seio nage against belligerent man. The man landed badly, may have suffered a serious neck injury.
Dominant ground positioning used to control suspect until backup arrives. From his grounded position, the suspect is unable to either escape or cause any harm to the officer.
The first officer to make physical contact attempts an armbar takedown which serves to spin the man around while remaining on his feet. Other police swarm and start grabbing at his arms and wrists. The police pull the man in all directions at the same time, which prevents escape but does not help to take him down.
One officer makes a half-hearted attempt at controlling the legs, but lets go. The man eventually is forced to lean forward, and in combination with tripping over the feet of one officer while being pulled forward in a headlock by another, he falls to the ground.
Suspect attempts to flee when a police officer searches him. As the struggle begins, a large knife can be seen tucked in to the rear of his belt. The knife falls to the ground as he escapes the grip of the cop. As the cop again grabs the suspect and pulls him to the ground, a bystander who apparently has some training in grappling assists by controlling the legs of the suspect. The bystander then transitions to a rear naked choke which effectively restrains the suspect who stops resisting.
A bystander initially approaches the man from behind while he is focused on the police, grabs him around the waist and effectively takes him to the ground. Police move in, then escort the bystander away and attempt to control the man with arm/wrist holds. When they fail at this and the man struggles free, they deploy their batons and strike him several times to little effect. The man eventually is able to walk away and the police follow behind by the end of the video.
Three police grab both wrists of man and are unable to effect a takedown until a fourth officer grabs the man around the neck from behind and pulls him to the ground.
Police officer uses a snapdown to control person resisting arrest. He initially grabbed the wrist only to prevent escape, then clinched and executed a snapdown, controlling the man with transitions and body positioning on the ground.
